Annual Kitchen Tour is October 6

  • Wednesday, October 2, 2013

The 2013 Scrumptious Summerville Kitchen Tour is a unique delight for the senses and a major fundraiser for the Dorchester Children’s Center. Patrons tour grand homes in Summerville and sample gourmet treats prepared by premiere Lowcountry chefs.
Local musicians are scheduled to perform in each home or garden and area florists will grace the interior décor with floral arrangements.
The 2013 Kitchen Tour is Sunday, October 6. This year 14 homeowners from along Salisbury Drive, Marion Avenue and President Circle have opened their homes as part of the tour making it one of the more spectacular routes.
The homes may be toured from 1 to 5 p.m.
This year the route is very historic as the homes have been built on the old Pine Forest Inn property. The Pine Forest Inn opened in 1891, and was owned and managed by F. W. and George A. Wagener. It was promoted as a place for the physically ill and those needing rest and relaxation.
Organizers herald the outpouring of volunteers in addition to the chefs and musicians for the event. Many individuals from the community are donating their time (and golf carts) as well as large groups of women from the Summerville Junior Service League and the Summerville Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. There are also students from several local schools and colleges helping out.
