Palmetto Scholars Academy’s (PSA) Board of Directors is proud to announce the selection of Dr. Timothy Gott as the school’s Principal, effective June 1, 2014. Dr. Gott is the Director of the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University at Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Gatton Academy was named the #1 high school in the United States for the past two years by NEWSWEEK magazine. Dr. Gott is also the President of the National Consortium for Specialized Secondary Schools of Mathematics, Science & Technology.

“I have been asked recently: Why Charleston? Essentially, it is the great potential of PSA that captured my heart.

When you look at the incredible combination of outstanding students, a truly talented staff, invested parents, a board that is committed to excellence, a community of great resources, and one of the greatest cities in the U.S., it is obvious to me that phenomenal things are going to happen.

Education in our country has been evolving in powerful ways over the last 20 years. If we take what we know to be best practices and infuse them into the PSA community, students will soar to new heights. I look forward to seeing PSA setting the standard for educational excellence for years to come,” said Dr. Gott.

“Hiring Dr. Gott is a huge step forward in achieving our ultimate goal of being a national model of how business, higher education, parents, and the community can work together to provide gifted students the academic rigor they need to reach their potential,” stated Stacey Lindbergh, Chairman, PSA Board of Directors.

Palmetto Scholars Academy is a South Carolina Public Charter School for gifted and talented students in the 6th through 11th grades and is open to students from any county or school district and is tuition free. Twelfth grade will be added beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. Information regarding the school is available at www.palmettoscholarsacademy.org
