Preps Wrap: Patriots claim boys’ swimming title

The crowning of region swimming champions is among the highlights from the past week of high school sports action.

The Region 8-AAAA Swim Championships were held Saturday in Beaufort with boys’ and girls’ teams representing Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester, Summerville, Beaufort and Bluffton high schools participating.

Fort Dorchester claimed the boys’ region title with a 109-point total Bluffton finished with 71 points to claim runner-up honors. Trailing were Ashley Ridge (55), Summerville (45) and Beaufort (14).

Bluffton claimed the girls’ region championship with a 107-point finish and Ashley Ridge tallied 77 points to place second. Trailing were Summerville (53), Fort Dorchester (45) and Beaufort (12).

Top qualifiers from the region meet advance to participate in the Class AAAA state championship swim meet to be held this weekend in Columbia.

Ashley Ridge defeated rival Summerville in girls’ golf and girls’ tennis Tuesday. The Lady Swamp Foxes earned a 184-218 win on the Miler Country Club course. Ashley Ridge’s Annette Paxton shot a 42 to claim the Low Medalist honor. The Lady Swamp Fox tennis team earned a 5-1 victory over the Lady Green Wave at Ashley Ridge.

The Fort Dorchester volleyball team improved to 18-1 on the season Monday with a win over Goose Creek.
