Vickie Turner Bryant, 56, of St. George, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:41 a.m., according to the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the wreck happened on Highway 78 at Orangeburg Road and involved three vehicles.
According to Sr. Trooper Bridget Wyant, Vehicle 1 -- a 1998 dump truck, full of asphalt, driven by Delane Carter, 45, of Ladson -- was stopped in traffic for a flag man in a construction zone.
Vehicle 2, a 2002 Buick driven by the deceased who was wearing a seat belt, was stopped behind vehicle 1.
Vehicle 3, a 2010 Hyundai, driven by Miller under the influence, but wearing a seat belt, failed to stop, hitting the rear of vehicle 2 driving it into the rear of vehicle 1. Miller was transported to Trident Medical Center with minor injuries and then booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center.
All three vehicles were traveling west on 78.
According to witnesses on scene, it appeared Miller never slowed down as she approached the stopped traffic.
The crash is still under investigation by the SCHP.
