The Pinewood Cross Country teams had another great effort at The Low Country Invitational last week.
The Pinewood girls placed third in a field of 49 teams and the boys placed 15th beating local rival Porter-Gaud. Many Personal Records were set and multiple athletes recorded a Season Best time.
Two school records were broken. Eighth-grader Maryah Nasir and senior Mason Hazel broke their own school records, finishing with times of 18:18 and 16:22 respectively. Nasir placed second in the girls’ varsity race and Hazel finished 15th in the boys’ varsity race.

Pinewood then traveled to Cary, N.C. for the Great American Cross Country Festival. “We used this meet as a workout,” Pinewood coach Kelly Hazel said. “We really enjoy the atmosphere of this event and the kids have a little fun with it. The course is one of the toughest on the East Coast and many top teams from out of state attend.”
Mason Hazel finished seventh overall with a time of 16:48 to garner a medal in the boys’ blue race.
Sophomore Katie Black ran a season-best time of 19:49. She led the Varsity A squad in the very competitive Race of Champions.
Amelia Kassing led the Varsity B squad with a time of 23:43 in the blue race.
