About 140 girls from Dorchester County, looking smart and prepared in their Girl Scout uniforms of khakis, white shirts, and vests, gathered at Summerville Presbyterian Church for a Rally on September 28 to launch the organization’s Fall Sales efforts.
From Daisies to Ambassadors, the girls learned safety and business tips, experienced camaraderie and were empowered.
Starting on October 1, Girl Scouts around the country will be selling nuts, candies, and magazines and earn monies toward scouting activities.
Unlike cookies, there won’t be organized Girl Scout booths at local businesses.
Sales are mostly conducted by Scouts going door to door in neighborhoods and community. Technology has also entered the scout business.
Girl Scouts are also creating their own websites and promoting online sales by emailing family and friends. Sales end October 23.
Currently, there are 2.3 million Girl Scouts and 890,000 adult volunteers in America.
In Summerville there are 414 Girl Scouts and 262 volunteers. Parents may contact Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina at (843) 552-9910 or toll-free (800) 868-9911 to register their daughter in Girl Scouts.
