The Ashley Ridge and Fort Dorchester girls’ golf teams have qualified for the Lower State tournament.

Region 8-AAAA held its 2013 girls’ golf championship tournament Monday at Dataw Island. Bluffton came in with a score of 288 to win the region title but Ashley Ridge and Fort Dorchester placed second and third, respectively, to advance to the Lower State tournament Oct. 21 at Wescott Plantation.

Ashley Ridge finished the region tournament with a 369 followed by Fort Dorchester (372), Beaufort (480) and Summerville (481).

“Our team score was the lowest we’ve ever had but the course was set up short which played to our advantage,” Ashley Ridge coach Chris Shaw said. “Sophomore Taylor Mayers of Fort Dorchester and eighth-grader Grace Zoller of Ashley Ridge had the best scores from our area and both made the All-Region Team.”

Bluffton’s Kassidy Beckel shot a 67 to claim the Low Medalist honor. Mayers shot a 78 and Zoller shot an 82. Fort Dorchester’s Delanie Mortier came in at 87 and the sister combo of Annette and Danielle Paxton came in at 85 and 93, respectively, to help their team qualify.

The top eight teams from the Lower State tournament will advance to the State Tournament.
