Bozarth, Ellenburg set the pace at cross country championships

Summerville placed fourth at the 2013 South Carolina Class AAAA girls’ cross country state championship race held Nov. 9 at the Sandhills Research Center in Columbia.

The Lady Green Wave finished with 171 points to tie Wade Hampton for third place, but fell to fourth based on tiebreaker rules. Riverside won the race with 43 points and J.L. Mann was the runner-up with 170 points.

Abby Bozarth led the way for Summerville, finishing the race in 18-minutes, 53.47 seconds to place ninth individually. Trailing for Summerville were Renee Bourgeois (19:49.38), Anya Bunao (19:51.45), Danielle Lodge (20:15.46), Lauren Halter (21:05.08), Betsy Bullock (21:31.03 and Savannah Baird (22:10.80).

Ashley Ridge finished with 366 points and in 16th place. Sophie Belhassen led the way for the Lady Swamp Foxes, finishing in 20:23.11 to place 52nd. Trailing for Ashley Ridge were Savannah Sutton (20:25.75), Alexis Cuttino (20:45.40), Kelly Burchette (21:54.51), Megan Winningham (22:13.46), Emily Scott (22:48.01) and Elena Leschack (22:55.69).

Autumn Stone (20:01.71) and Allison Sorrenson (21:21.85) led Fort Dorchester, which did not place in the Top 20.

Ashley Ridge had the top performance by a Dorchester Two team during the boys’ state championship race, finishing with 334 points to place 14th. Fort Dorchester was just behind with 354 points to place 16th.

Jackson Ellenburg led the Swamp Foxes, finishing in 16:02.78 and in seventh place individually. Trailing for Ashley Ridge were Tyler Ohsfeldt (17:01.54), Doug Torgerson (17:01.54), Caleb Dorrity (17:32.72), James Williams (18:13.21), Will Henley (18:21.29 and Logan Ruddick (18:33.40).

Thomas Pittman led the Patriots, finishing in 16:53.42 to place 35th individually. Trailing for Fort Dorchester were Koh Matsumoto (17:13.66), Jesse Tortorella (17:20.08), Alexander Armstrong (17:43.47), Stephen Gillette (18:17.93), Gabriel Silveiro (19:26.76) and John Eckoff (20:19.84).
