Two hundred area Cub and Boy Scouts participated in the 3rd annual Scout Boats/Sea Ray of Charleston Sea Spot Run Fishing Tournament on October 12 at the County Park and Recreation Commission’s Mount Pleasant Fishing Pier, raising $2,000 for the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Trophies were awarded in five categories with Mike Hart of Summerville’s Pack 825 earned the “Scout Sportsman “ award with his encouraging attitude throughout the day., Preston Mappus of Charleston’s Pack 79 hauling in the “Biggest Fish” of the day, a 14 1’2” Trout, Sullivan Porcaro of Mount Pleasant Pack 505 with the “Fish with the Most Spots” trophy with an 11 ½” Trout, and Clifton Benson of Charleston’s Pack 14 with the “Most Fish Caught” Trophy after bringing in an assortment of 11 fish including bass, spot, grouper, toad, puffer and pinfish. Mason Jefferson of Pack 9 in Mount Pleasant was awarded the “Most Unusual Catch” with his catch of a Crevalle Jack. Laird Staley and Tony Kozloski of Lowcountry Anglers served as the official weighmasters, accompanied by Robert Wiggers and Rhett Box of South Carolina DNR.
In addition, Preston Mappus of Pack 79 in Charleston, Michael Fuller of Pack 241 in Bluffton, Khalil Rumph of Walterboro and Ronnie Hutto of Troop 502 on Isle of Palms each participated in SC DNR’s tag and release program over the course of the day, winning additional prizes.
