Mentors in training

  • Wednesday, November 20, 2013

A.M. Sheehan/Journal Scene ARHS Athletic Director Bobby Behr speaks to the 24 Master Gardener trainees in attendance on Thursday, Nov. 14, at Oakbrook Middle School for a presentation on DD2 school gardens and the Farm to School project given by Amy Dabbs, Urban Horticulture Extension Agent for the county and Behr who began the Farm to School project in DD2. There was also one certified Master Gardener and his spouse who will volunteer with a DD2 school starting as soon as they complete their paperwork to work with youth and pass their background checks.  The 24 trainees in the class are working toward graduation. One student did connect with a teacher in attendance – student Dave Severt and teacher Brooke Testa said they would like to work together on Testa’s school garden. Behr is hoping he can get at least one master gardener per school to partner and offer their expertise.
