While directing traffic at the site of a collision, Nov. 20, on West 5th North Street, a Summerville Police officer encountered a vehicle that attempted to drive him. After yelling at the driver to stop and instructing him to turn onto a side street, the officer shone his light into the car and observed Kim Rene Milligan, 52, of Summerville with her head resting on the steering wheel.
The officer noted that Milligan was extremely lethargic, her speech was slurred and she smelled strongly of alcohol. Milligan told the officer she had “a couple of beers two hours ago.” When as to define “a couple” she responded “a couple.”
Milligan denied taking any drugs, prescription or otherwise. She then asked the officer not to take her license. She said she had a fight with her husband and was just going to the store for cigarettes.
Milligan failed the field sobriety test and blew a .27 percent on the breath analyzer…almost twice the legal limit. By the end of the testing, Milligan was admitting to three or four beers and “about three shots of vodka.” Then she said she had not really had any beers. She was charged with DUI and her license automatically suspended for 30 days.
