The Ashley Ridge boys won their opener Dec. 20 during the Warrior Classic holiday tournament but were eliminated from contention for the championship the next day.
The Swamp Foxes (4-5) earned a 56-52 win over St. Johnís to advance in the winnerís bracket. Ashley Ridge outscored St. Johnís 13-8 in the first quarter and then held off a late surge to get the win.
Tyquan Tucker led the Ashley Ridge scorers with 16 points while both Sean White and Corbin Landers added 7 points.
In the second round, Ashley Ridge lost 50-35 to Goose Creek. The Gators (6-1) outscored the Swamp Foxes 16-9 in the second period to take a 10-point lead into the half. Goose Creek added 4 points to its lead in the third and Ashley Ridge never recovered.
Goose Creekís Chris Singleton led all scorers with 15 points. Kameron Robinson added 12 points for the Gators and Dantez Bennamon added 11. Tray Jenkins led Ashley Ridge with 11 points and Landers added 9 for the Swamp Foxes.
Goose Creek went on to play Summerville in the tournament championship while Ashley Ridge had to settle for a consolation game. Ashley Ridge returns to action at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 4 when they host a team from Australia.
