Swamp Foxes win tight matches with Summerville, Beaufort

The Ashley Ridge volleyball team swept a tri-match with Summerville and Beaufort Thursday.
The Swamp Foxes defeated Summerville 25-16, 26-24 and Beaufort 25-15, 25-27, 25-17 to improve to 11-4 on the year with a 6-2 mark in region play. Summerville won its match with Beaufort 25-20, 25-21 to finish the day with a 9-12 record with a 4-4 mark in the region.
Largely behind the hitting of Kayla Bass and Brenna Swartz, the Swamp Foxes jumped out to an 11-1 lead in its first game with the Green Wave and then held on for the win.
In the second game, Summerville got out to a 16-6 lead and Ashley Ridge had to rally. Late in the game, senior Addie Clower knocked down several kills and Summerville committed several errors as the Swamp Foxes battled back. Consecutive kills by Clower gave Ashley Ridge a 25-24 lead and then Bass scored to secure the victory.
“I really felt like we would come back because I have a lot of confidence in this team,” Clower said. “We played great and everybody did their part.”
Whitley Lewis also scored multiple points for Ashley Ridge during the Summerville match.
Bass, Clower and Swartz were also key in the wins over Beaufort. Kayla Huggins had four service aces in that match and Sabrina Spencer had four kills.
Summerville was led by Zuri Green, Dani Halajcsik and Ashleigh Green. Ja’Kaylah Ravenell and Kayla Branton also scored several points for the Green Wave.
