The owners of Heritage Square have until the end of the month to pay $71,000 in delinquent taxes, or the shopping center will be sold on the courthouse steps.
Co-owner Jack Owens said Tuesday the taxes will be paid.
Last year, the shopping center’s owners didn’t pay property taxes until Oct. 24.
The shopping center and the apartment building behind it are split into four parcels, with the lowest amount due $2,582 and the highest amount $30,908.
Owens said he’s still working to market the property, which sits at the corner of U.S. 78 and the Berlin G. Myers Parkway.
It’s the subject of a lawsuit between the owners and the town, which issued an order in late 2010 to demolish the building because it was considered unsafe.
Tuesday, council’s finance committee went into executive session to discuss legal matters related to property, but took no action upon reconvening in open session.
