The Summerville Police Department is looking for a man believed to be involved in a sexual assault that occurred Wednesday afternoon on the Sawbranch Trail near the SCE&G power station near Bacons Bridge Road.
The suspect is described as a 16-18 year-old white male approximately five feet seven inches tall, 180 pounds, with curly brown hair and wearing jeans and a camouflage jacket, according to a SPD Incident Report.
According to the report, witnesses called 911 at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday to report seeing a young white female running along the Sawbranch Trail naked, screaming, with blood running down her face. Officers arrived and spoke to the victim, a 17-year-old female, described in the report as having visible scratches, bruises, and a bloody lip. The victim told the officers that she was running on the trail when the suspect came riding along on a bicycle. She said as rode past her, he smacked her buttocks. She said that this incident upset her but she kept running.
However, the suspect reappeared and this time rammed her with his bike, then jumped off, ordered her to shut up, punched her several times in the face, then pulled a knife and tried to push her to the ground before dragging her into the woods and assaulting her, according to the report.
According to the report, a witness came upon the scene and asked if everything was all right. The suspect yelled at the witness, saying he was with his girlfriend and they were trying to have sex. At this point, the victim started screaming for help and the suspect fled the area on his bike. She then ran to her car then went home and told her father what had happened.
The victim said she runs the trail often and did not recognize her attacker.
The case is under investigation. Anyone with any information should call the Summerville Police Department at 871-2463.
