Austin Grace Smith makes her debut at First Friday on Broad with a show at Michael Parks Gallery.
Her images are painted on hand-selected birch panels. She takes the wood and plays off of the grain to create her coastally inspired pieces.
Smith entitled her show “Beyond the Grain” after the thought process she went through to create each work.
“I challenged myself in preparing for this show,” Smith said. “I decided to paint some of my pieces vertically to forcing myself to find images that cut across the grain.”
She will also be debuting the pieces that inspired her passion using wooden panels – tide clocks. On display will be her second collection of the clocks. Her first collection was sold quickly after they were completed.
See her show Friday January 4th from 5p.m. to 8 p.m. at 35 Broad Street.
