Dr. Beth A Cook started her career in healthcare administration and then realized she would rather work directly with patients. So she left her position as marketing director of a large hospital in West Virginia and went to medical school, where she decided to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology. Over the past decade, she has built a busy Ob/Gyn practice in Summerville with Women's Health Partners. Plus, she serves as chief medical adviser at Summerville Medical Center (SMC), which means she acts as a liaison between the physicians and the administration, a natural fit given her background. She is pleased to be a part of the recent expansion of the South Carolina Institute for Robotic Surgery to SMC and likes the advantages that robotics give her in performing gynecologic procedures such as hysterectomy, cyst removal and endometriosis relief. "Patients are doing fantastic post-operatively." "I still remember the first birth that I got to see, the one that catches you in your heart and makes you tear up and say, 'Yep this is what I want to do.'"
