  • Monday, January 14, 2013

The Green Wave boys opened region play Monday with a 61-38 victory over Colleton County.
The Cougars hit three shots from behind the arc to claim a 15-14 lead at the end of the opening period. Summerville responded by picking up the tempo and took a 28-24 lead into the half.
After that, it was all Green Wave. Summerville outscored the Cougars 33-14 over the next 16 minutes.
“We played more aggressive on defense and went up by 15 in the third period,” Summerville coach Greg Elliott said. “We shot the ball very well and only made two turnovers so that helps.”
John Jenkins paced the Wave with a game-high 24 points. Center Christian Kalacanic added 16 points for Summerville, which had a total of seven players score.
Colleton County was led by Rashee Hodges with 16 points and Hank Nichols with 14.
The Green Wave improved to 11-4 on the season with the win. Summerville has its second region contest of the year on Jan. 11 when it travels to Beaufort. The Wave returns home Jan. 15 to host Bluffton.
