New year brings new opportunity

Let me start my column by wishing everyone a happy, safe and prosperous new year.
Many of us have hopes, dreams and aspirations that we are expecting to come to pass in 2013.
Nobody can guarantee you anything in life. But when we know what we want, really believe we are able to achieve it, then with the help of God and a willingness to do the work it takes and face the challenges that come, we can achieve our goals. At the least we have a much better chance of realizing our goals than if all we do is just hope with our hands folded.                                                                       
In the description above lies the key to success in achieving what you want during 2013. Let’s enumerate the parts more clearly.
First we have to know what we want. Some people don’t know what they really want. They have an interest in many things but they are not sufficiently sold on any one thing.
The next part of my description is that you must believe that you are able to achieve it. If we don’t believe we can then that unbelief becomes a limiter to our achieving that thing.
The old adage is true, “If you think you can you can. If you think you can’t you can’t.”
Believe you can so that you do not get discouraged when you face the first sign of struggle.                                                                                                  
The next thing you need to do is be willing to pay the price, do the work that is necessary. I say with the help of God because for me there is no real success without Him.
Secondly, no matter what I have to go through He will be there to see me through. He is not what we call a fair-weather friend. But it doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing. Nothing is free.
Sometimes what we think is free ends up costing us the most. Nothing comes free in life. There is a cost somewhere down the road. It is much better to negotiate your price upfront, know what you are getting into and pay the price.                                                                                                                                                       
The next part of my description says you must be willing to face the challenges that will come your way. Life is not easy for anyone. You don’t pursue a dream or try to achieve a goal and everyone and everything step aside for you so you can achieve that goal.
Life is not like that. You will face obstacles. You will have challenges. At times you might even grow weary and be tempted to quit.
But you hold on. You continue. You do not give up. You do not allow the challenges to get the better of you. You press forward.
By the time this column gets in your hand the New Year by be already here, but it will still be early enough for you to pursue those elusive dreams or goals and make them a reality.
