Wave boys, Fort girls finish as runner-up

  • Monday, January 14, 2013

Two Summerville-area teams competed in the finals of the sixth annual Somerset Apartment/Louis Mulkey Invitational JV tournament held Dec. 27-29 at Summerville High School.
The Green Wave advanced to the championship game for the boys’ tournament, but fell to Wando in the title game.
“We were right there with them early in the game, but in the second half we made a couple of bad plays and they started to pull away from us,” Summerville coach Ian Lenke said. “Our guys wanted that win so we are disappointed, but they did what we asked them to and played extremely hard. Sometimes a loss like that can help you down the road so we are anxious to see what we can do once we open region play.”
The Wave JV boys entered play this week with a 7-4 record, taking on Colleton County Monday after press time. The team hosts Bluffton Jan. 15.
Bishop England, Stratford, Hanahan, Beaufort, Colleton County and Fort Dorchester also participated in the boys’ tournament.
The girls’ bracket consisted of Northwood Academy, Wando, Hanahan, Berkeley, Bishop England, Fort Dorchester, Goose Creek and the Lady Green Wave.
The Lady Patriots advanced to that championship game, but fell to Bishop England. The Fort Dorchester JV teams host Ashley Ridge Friday.
