Wednesday saw teams from the Summerville and Goose Creek areas compete on the hardwood as well as a Region 8-AAAA wrestling match.
The Summerville boys’ basketball team earned a 78-67 victory at Stratford to improve to 9-4 on the season. Stratford fell to 8-7. The Green Wave outscored the Knights 20-8 in the opening period and 19-8 in the second and then held on for the win. Brandon Wilkerson and John Jenkins led Summerville with 19 points each and center Christian Kalacanic finished with 17 points. Timmy Singleton, Chris McKinnon and Xavier Robinson also scored for Summerville.
Stratford was led by TeAndre Hansley, who scored 25 points. Dimitri Rivers added 21 points and Vernon Lowndes added 11.
The Summerville girls earned a 57-24 victory over Stratford to improve to 9-4 on the season. The Lady Knights dropped to 3-9.
The Lady Wave was led by Kwanza Murray, who had a game-high 14 points. Zuri Green added 12 points for Summerville, which also had baskets from Tinara Brown, JaKaylah Ravenell, Chelsi Anderson, Rodnesha Capers, Michelle Padgett and Gabrielle Stewart.
The Fort Dorchester boys (8-6) hosted Goose Creek and fell 57-38 to the Gators. Baptiste Staggers led the Patriots with 10 points. Dantez Bennamon led the Gators with 16 points.
The Patriot wrestling team dominated its first region match of the season, handing Colleton County a 67-9 loss.
