The Goose Creek basketball teams swept Fort Dorchester Wednesday night.
The Goose Creek boys earned a 50-37 win at home to improve to 4-1 on the season.
The Gators took advantage of their size to jump ahead early. The Patriots (3-2) tried to counter by setting a fast tempo, but the pace didn’t bother Goose Creek.
“The Fort is tough,” Goose Creek coach Blake Hall said. “They have some kids who really play hard and coach Wheaton does a good job of preparing his team. But we were prepared and our kids are getting better each time we play. We have a good rivalry going with them and there was an exciting atmosphere here tonight.”
The Gators took a 12-2 lead in the game and finished the first period ahead 14-5. They extended the lead to 28-17 at the half.
The Patriots went on a run early in the third to pull within six points, but then allowed the Gators to regain the momentum.
Goose Creek’s Dantez Bennamon led all scorers with 14 points. Shaquille Patrick added 11 for the Gators while Deshawn Evans chipped in 10.
Jalen Hooks led the Patriots with 9 points and Drederick Singletary finished with 7.

The Fort girls were down a starter at Goose Creek and it proved to be costly as the Lady Gators cruised to a 65-36 victory to improve to 5-0 on the season.
“I was pleased with our hustle tonight,” Lady Gator coach Tim Baldwin said. “However I’m still looking for us to put together a complete game where we get our offense going and we execute our half-court set the way we should.”
Goose Creek jumped ahead 14-0 and took a 16-3 lead into the second period. By halftime, the Lady Gators were up 33-12.
Fort Dorchester’s Erica Martin led all scorers with 16 points and Erica Cobb finished with 15. However, only two other Lady Patriots scored and Goose Creek had three players in double figures.
Ashley Fields led Goose Creek with 14 points while Semoine Frasier and Jalvin Jones both added 11 points.
The Fort girls dropped to 1-4 on the season.
