Eagle grapplers too much for Patriots

  • Thursday, January 17, 2013

The Fort Dorchester wrestling team tried to muster a comeback Wednesday but couldn’t quite pull it off.
The Patriots, ranked ninth in the coaches’ rankings for Class AAAA teams released earlier this month, fell 32-28 to fifth-ranked Beaufort in North Charleston. Each team won seven weight classes, but the Eagles picked up more points along the way.
Beaufort jumped out to a 28-0 lead with wins in the first six weight classes so the Patriots knew they would need to pick up some bonus points in order to stand a chance. Fort Dorchester earned some, but not enough.
Charles Washington earned a major decision in the 138-pound match and Jacob Hutchinson and Joseph Hutchinson earned pins for the Fort at 170 and 182, respectively.
However, Beaufort earned pins at 195, 220 and 120 as well as major decisions at 106 and 152.
Also winning their match for the Patriots were Trevour Johnson, Dallis Brown, AJ Alford and Austin Ziliak.
The Patriots record dropped to 8-10 with a 3-1 mark in Region 8-AAAA with the loss. They have an opportunity to knot up the region Jan. 23 when they travel to Summerville, which won its first three region contests and is ranked second in the state.
