The Ashley Ridge basketball teams split their games in Bluffton Friday.
The Ashley Ridge girls rallied to earn a 42-35 victory.
“The girls played with a tremendous amount of heart in the second half to come back and earn a great team victory,” Lady Swamp Fox coach Chris Shaw said. “We were without our starting point guard and sixth man and had some other key players fighting injuries throughout the game but these girls just continued to fight. Shelby Daly really put us on her back and Kim Cole played an outstanding game to help get the win.”
Ashley Ridge trailed by double digits most of the first half but Daly stole a pass and hit a half court shot at the buzzer to cut the lead to 20-16 entering the half. Then the Lady Swamp Foxes built off the momentum, outscoring Bluffton 16-3 in the third and 12-10 in the final period.
Daly led the Ashley Ridge shooters with 20 points while Kimberly Cole added 10 and Ashley Tierney nine. Dynasty Mervin led Bluffton with 10 points.
Ashley Ridge improved to 9-7 on the season with a 4-2 mark in Region 8-AAAA to keep the race for the region’s top spots interesting.
The Ashley Ridge boys dropped their game by a 61-47 margin. Fred Weeks posted a game-high 24 points while Romelo Doctor scored 12 but the Bobcats were set on avenging a loss at Ashley Ridge earlier this season.
C.J. Frazier led the charge, scoring 15 points for Bluffton. Marquis Webber added 10 for the Bobcats.
Ashley Ridge carried a 12-7 record and a 3-3 mark in region play into action this week.
