Soccer players from two local high schools have teamed up to support Gracie Rasner in her fight against Cystic fibrosis.
Members of the Ashley Ridge girls’ and Summerville boys’ soccer teams served as volunteers during the Kiawah Island Golf Resort Marathon last month in order to raise funds for the Gracie Rose Foundation, which provides help to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and directly to those suffering from CF. Each volunteer at the marathon received a $25 donation to the charity of their choice and this year 27 soccer players from the schools pitched in.
Last week the athletes presented a check to Gracie Rose Foundation representative Taryn Floyd and Rasner, the 9-year-old William Reeves Elementary School student who inspired the creation of the Gracie Rose Foundation.
“There is no federal funding for Cystic fibrosis research and just taking a look at Gracie it becomes clear why that research is so important,” Floyd said. “We need to do everything we can to help those facing this. The funds we raise are used to fund that research and to help offset medical costs.”
Some of the soccer players will also volunteer during the upcoming CF Cupcake Run/Walk 5K, an event founded last year to support the Gracie Rose Foundation.
The second annual event is scheduled for March 2 at William Reeves Elementary. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, Logan’s Roadhouse lunch and a cupcake at the finish line. The event will again feature a Battle of the Schools with prizes available for the school that shows the most spirit and the school that brings the most participants.
