Tierney leads Lady Swamp Foxes past Fort D
The Lady Swamp Foxes rode a powerful third-period effort to a 41-31 win over the Lady Patriots.
Ashley Ridge outscored Fort Dorchester 17-6 in the third Tuesday and held on for its second victory of the season over the Fort. The Swamp Foxes improved to 10-7 on the season with a 5-2 mark in Region 8-AAAA with the win while the Patriots dropped to 5-12 and 3-4.
Ashley Ridge enters play Feb. 1 tied for second place in the region with Colleton County. Both teams trail Summerville.
Ashley Tierney made some big baskets early in the game to help the Foxes out to a 6-2 lead. The Patriots then took the lead off a three-pointer by Shamari Jones and a jumper by Leah Robinson, but Kelly Cousins picked up a bucket late in the period for an 8-7 Ashley Ridge lead entering the second.
The next period was a battle, but Olivia Baum hit a three-point shot to help the Foxes to a 15-13 lead at the half.
The third started with a trading of 3s by Tierney and Shamari Jones. The period was a battle at first, but Ashley Ridge did a good job moving the ball inside and started to pull away. The Foxes closed the period with 11 unanswered points for a 32-19 lead.
The Patriots continued to fight and cut the lead to 6 with just more than a minute remaining to play. However, Ashley Ridge fed the ball to Shelby Daly in the final minute and she sank six free throws to secure the win.
Tierney finished with a game-high 14 points while Daly added 10.
Fort Dorchester was led by Shamari Jones with 11 points and Territta Jones with 10.
