On December 6, 2012, Dorchester County held its Principal of a Day at Dorchester DD2, DD4, and the Career and Technology Center. Business Executives shadowed principals in assigned schools to learn more about the school system, its challenges, and its successes. Principal for a Day at Newington Elementary School was Journal Scene Publisher Ellen Priest. She spent the day with Principal Cammy Groome. One of the meetings held with Principal Groome that day was with three student liaisons from within the student body who meet quarterly with fellow liaisons from other schools and Superintendent Joe Pye. They then report back to Principal Groome what was discussed and reported on at the meetings.
