More opposition to skate park
Residents of a small neighborhood opposed to a skate park in their midst got some backup Wednesday from a Summervillian in an unaffected neighborhood.
Adriaan Kwist, a 47-year resident, told Town Council a skate park is a great idea – just not in the small Sasportas neighborhood in the shadow of Memorial Stadium.
“I’m a firm believer in fairness,” he said.
The residents have repeatedly raised objections to the plan, he said, but “Have you really listened to what they had to say?”
A larger neighborhood would have been able to raise more opposition, but council should be looking out for neighborhoods large and small, he said.
Kwist said he doesn’t live there and won’t be affected by the skate park, but he sympathizes with the neighborhood.
Gahagan Park would have been a much better location, he said.
During the short meeting, council also:
Gave final approval to annexation of Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site; and
Approved a committee decision to initiate a six-month test project of paying local attorneys $500 per case to act as public defenders in the municipal court when needed. The town also accepted a painting from the Flowertown Garden Club by Cecile Langham Cothran celebrating the club’s 60th anniversary.
