Jailed man sends family faux anthrax

 
A 25 year old man in jail in Seattle, Wash., sent his family in Summerville an ugly surprise: a letter that contained white powder he claimed was anthrax.
According to a Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the family received the letter in their Monday, Feb. 25 mail delivery at their home in Myers Mill.
According to the report, the letter was addressed to the man’s juvenile sister. The mother, however, took the letter upstairs and opened it, to find the words “Anthrax Anthrax” written on a piece of paper, along with a small quantity of white powder.
The woman stayed upstairs, away from everyone else in the house, and called 911.
Units from DCSO, Old Fort Fire Department, SLED, and FBI Counter-Terrorism unit were dispatched to the home. Upon field-testing of some of the white powder, authorities were able to confirm that it was not anthrax but some harmless substance.
The complainant, the 45-year-old woman who owns the home and opened the letter, told law enforcement that her son, the subject, has a drug problem and is currently incarcerated in the King County Jail, Seattle, Wash., for violation of a no contact order. She further stated she has other letters from the subject, her son, which she has not opened.
The investigation is ongoing.
