LTC Ernest G. Rider, USAF, Ret., went home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2013. He was born 26th June 1938 in Dillsburg, PA. Col Rider received his BS in Physics from Franklin and Marshall College, PA and his MS degree in Industrial Engineering from ASU, Tempe, AZ. He was a 25 year veteran of the USAF. Upon retiring, he and his wife moved to Orlando, FL where he was employed as a Senior Systems Analyst for Coleman Research Corp. They moved to Summerville, SC in 1993, where he resided until his passing.
Ernie was a kind, loving and compassionate husband, father and grandfather. He had a strong work ethic and was always helping his family and others. His hobbies included a love of electronics, hunting, exploring the outdoors and RVing and traveling with his wife and family. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville and a member of Mt.Olivet Campmeeting in Dillsburg, PA.
He is survived by his wife Donna, three daughters: Cheryl Peterson, Cindy Sasser and her husband Jeff, Christi Whitcomb and her husband Pastor Gavin, Sr., and one son, Bill Rider and his wife Lisa. Seven grandchildren: Drew and Austin Peterson, Julie Humenik, Jessica Sasser, Gavin Whitcomb, Jr., Jackson and Ashlyn Rider. Two great grandchildren: Kaylee Humenik and Keegan Whitcomb. One sister: Gail Shaffer, an aunt and uncle: Maye and Bob Byers and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Hospice of Charleston, American Cancer Society or Bethany United Methodist Church, Summerville.
You are welcome to attend the Memorial Service to honor Ernie's life on Saturday, March 16 at 11:00 am at Bethany UMC and a service this summer during Mt.Olivet Campmeeting in Dillsburg, PA.
