Reed, Ms. Llewellyn
Ms. Llewellyn Reed, age 90, died at home of natural causes after two years of declining health. She was born in St. George, SC on August 26, 1922 to the late Julian Otey Reed and Anabel Jackson Reed Fogle.
She was a graduate of St. George High School and attended the University of SC. When World War II broke out she took a service exam at the Charleston Custom house and was employed by the U.S. Army Department in Washington D.C. then transferred to U.S. embassies in France, Germany and Austria. After leaving government services she relocated to New York City where she had a long career with McMillen, Inc. Upon retirement she moved back to SC to help take care of her mother and stepfather, George H. Fogle.
She is survived by two brothers, James Otey Reed (predeceased by his wife Barbara S. Reed) of Rome, GA, and Alexander (wife Joan) Reed of Spring, TX; three nephews, John O. Reed of Savannah, GA, Mark Reed of Houston, TX, and Ed Reed of Austin, TX; two nieces, Vicki Hamill (husband Jack) of Montgomery, TX and Ellen Segers (husband Darren); two grandnieces Sarah and Emily Segers all of Spring, TX; and also her special cat, Silas.
Ms. Reed, a lifelong Episcopalian, is a current member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Summerville. In the past she had been active in numerous civic, county, state and national organizations. She served one term on the Ridgeville Town Council and as Mayor Pro Tem, and was a strong supporter of the National Democratic Party.
A memorial service will be announced and held at St. Paul's at a later date. Interment of ashes will be private.
