SCISA teams competed in Hunt Seat and Western Events for two State Titles. A Hunt Seat and Western State Champion and Runner Up were awarded.
Pinewood equestrians claimed the State Runner Up Title in the Western Division.  Senior Ali Clynes Schmieding put in solid rides in horsemanship and reining, placing second in both of her classes. Sister Aurie Engel Schmieiding also contributed with a second-place finish in Varsity Open reining.
Senior Kara Guertin finishes her fourth year as a member of the equestrian team at Pinewood. She will ride for the University of South Carolina next year as a member of their reining squad.
Ali Clynes Schmieding is completing her third year as a member of the team. She will ride for St. Andrews University next year.
“We are so proud that both of our seniors have been invited to ride at the college level next year,” team advisor Aimee Soyka said. “What a great opportunity for these girls and a point of pride for Pinewood’s Equestrian program.”
The Pinewood Western Riders compete April 6-7 in Braselton, Ga. at the Interscholastic Equestrian Association Zone 4 Finals. Top riders from that competition will move on to the National Championship in Oklahoma in June.

The 2013 SCISA Equestrian State Championship was held in Sumter this month.
SCISA teams competed in Hunt Seat and Western Events for two State Titles. A Hunt Seat and Western State Champion and Runner Up were awarded.
