Flowertown Elementary School students recently celebrated the life of Dr. Seuss and their love for reading during the annual Read Across America Week celebration. Each day of the week was based on a theme from a famous Dr. Seuss book. Students wore their favorite colors, crazy socks and shoes, hats, pajamas, and sunglasses on each day of the week to honor such Dr. Seuss titles as My Many Colored Days, The Foot Book, The Cat in the Hat, The Sleep Book, and I Can Read with my Eyes Shut. Along with the fun themes, every grade level had guest readers including Mother Goose, Firefighters from the Summerville Fire Station 2, K9 Officers and their dogs from Summerville PD, The Tooth Fairy, Stingrays Hockey Players, and the Mayor himself. To finish up the week of reading, students participated in a “Read and Rock-a-thon” in the library. They also “popped” into a good book with popcorn provided by the FES PTA. Shown from left are Aspen Moyer, Mekya Venning, Summerville Mayor Bill Collins, Daseon Ladson, and Bailey Rudd.
