The Summerville Masons Lodge 234 is celebrating its 10th Smoke at the Lodge anniversary event by teaming with the Southern Barbecue Network and the World Food Championships to bring the unique competition to Summerville April 5-6.
A “No Pork” contest on April 5 will feature samples available from championship cooking teams. Dancers will have a chance to shake a leg and bend an ankle to the sounds of the Original Out of Towner’s Band. The band will crank out beach and boogie tunes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday morning starts “BBQ Day.” Dinner plates will be available at the Summerville Mason’s Lodge at 111 Main Street. Dinner plates are $7 and will be available from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. All of the barbecue will be prepared by the competitors in the BBQ contest.
Smoke at the Lodge is the only contest in the Lowcountry that will generate an automatic bid to the World Food Championships in Las Vegas in October.
SBN will designate the Grand Champion from Smoke at the Lodge as an automatic bid to the World Food Championships in Las Vegas. The WCF event features a BBQ contest as one of seven cooking contests with category winners competing for one of the largest prize purses in competitive cooking.
“Proceeds from Smoke at the Lodge will help folks in need right here in Flowertown. The Masonic Lodge needs your help,” said event spokesperson Bob Kuziak.

This year’s Smoke at the Lodge barbecue competition is getting a boost of a national kind with BBQSuperStars.com planning live streaming of the event to The Food Channel Network’s broadcast operation in Augusta, Georgia.
