Patriots fall to Eagles

Each team had eight hits Monday but Beaufort made the most of their’s as the Eagles defeated Fort Dorchester 6-2 in North Charleston.
It was a tight baseball game until Beaufort scored two runs off a double, a walk, a Patriot error and a bunt single in the top of the seventh to double its lead.
“Right now we are only starting one senior and we haven’t been pulling out the close games like we need to,” Patriot coach Jack Radcliffe said. “Hopefully in the second half of our region schedule we will be able to pull out those close games that we couldn’t in the first half.”
Pitcher Corey Rawlings only walked two batters while striking out six but took the loss after surrendering six hits in six innings, including a two-run homerun by David Tilton that gave the Eagles a boost early in the game.
Bradley Brown went the distance on the mound for the Eagles to pick up the win. He walked two batters and fanned four.
Rawlings and first baseman Cody Meree were both 2 for 3 at the plate for the Patriots.
Beaufort scored a run off two hits in the first inning and went up 3-0 on Tilton’s homer in the third.
In the bottom of the frame, Patriot shortstop Ryan Boyle singled and then Rawlings helped his own cause with a triple that drove in Boyle. Designated hitter Eurndraus Bryant followed with a single to plate courtesy runner Austin McClung and pull the Fort within a run.
After two scoreless innings, Beaufort opened the sixth with a double that led to another Eagle run.
In the bottom of the frame, Meree reached on a base on balls with only one out, but Brown struck out the next two batters.
Patriot catcher Ryan Thomas reached base in the bottom of the seventh, but the Eagles turned a double play to secure the win.
Fort Dorchester’s record excluding tournaments dropped to 7-4. The Patriots are 2-4 in Region 8-AAAA with four region games remaining.
Beaufort improved to 10-5, 5-1.
