The Summerville Farmer’s Market is back.
Saturday marks the first day of the market, which runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday until Nov. 23.
Anyone who visited the Flowertown Festival last Saturday had a chance to see some of the vendors in a preview of the market.
Nick Kierpiec, assistant parks and recreation manager for the town, said the farmers and specialty food vendors had a great response at the festival.
“Anybody that was there had a pretty wonderful day,” he said.
He said both Gruber Farms and Behr Family Farms sold a lot of produce and generated a lot of interest in their CSAs, or community-supported agriculture programs.
By joining a CSA, a customer pays a pre-determined amount and gets a weekly boxful of whatever’s fresh from the fields.
There are about 65 vendors signed up for the town’s market. Kierpiec said the town received 110 vendor applications last year; this year it received more than 200.
Spaces are limited because the market occurs in the parking lot between Town Hall and First Citizens Bank.
The market will remain there for the foreseeable future, Kierpiec said. The town did look at other spots, but vendors said they liked the family atmosphere created by the close-in space, he said.
In addition to farmers, artisans and specialty food vendors, there will also be two food trucks beginning at the end of the month.
The first food trucks will be Dulce, which sells baked goods, and Refueler’s Mobile Café, which sells Filipino fusion.
The trucks will rotate each month, Kierpiec said.
