Clemson University offers summer programs for the young people of South Carolina, with the first programs developed and operated by SC 4-H. This summer, SC 4-H offers residential summer camps especially for active club members ages 8 to 14.
4-H Club Summer Camp helps young club members develop the skills they need to succeed in all areas of life. From wake up to lights out, campers enjoy new challenges, discovery, friendships and fun, with a focus on developing character through cooperation, teamwork, respect for others and
for our natural environment — all at a great value and a high level of staff training and expertise.
All camp sessions are held at the W.W. Long 4-H Leadership Center in Aiken, known as “Camp Long,” located at 82 Wire Rd. in Aiken. Camp dates for the Savannah Valley region which includes Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties are July 29-Aug. 2. Campers check in on Monday at 10 a.m. and pick up is Friday at 10 a.m. Tuition is $250 (limited scholarships may be available). Transportation to and from camp is not provided.
Camp Long is situated on 418 scenic acres that include a recreational building, basketball court, baseball field, an 18-acre pond for swimming and canoeing, team challenge courses, a climbing wall, lake zip line and hiking trails. Additional camp activities include groups games, archery and shooting sports, healthy lifestyles sessions, night activities, field and water Olympics, slip and slide water games, a dance and talent show.
Membership is open to young people who wish to join their local 4-H Club to participate in summer camp as well as great year-round programs. Space for summer camp is limited. Call now for more information or to register. Contact Berkeley County 4-H Agent, Gayle Williford at
