Heritage Square teardown on hold – again
The owners of the Heritage Square shopping center plan to appeal the teardown order to the S.C. Court of Appeals.
Town Attorney G.W. Parker said he received notice last week that Master-in-Equity Maite Murphy refused the owners’ latest request for reconsideration, followed by a notice of intent to appeal from the owners.
Calls to the owners’ attorney weren’t returned.
The town first ordered demolition in early 2010, citing structural flaws in the derelict center at the intersection of U.S. 78 and the Berlin G. Myers Parkway.
Since then, the town and the owners have been in a back-and-forth battle while the elements continue to chip away at the center.
In the latest order, on March 26, Murphy said the owners had plenty of time to deal with the situation but had refused, leaving the public at risk.
