The Lady Eagles tallied 170 points to run away with the meet held Thursday at Summerville High School. The Lady Green Wave placed second with 91 points followed by Colleton County (76), Ashley Ridge (66), Fort Dorchester (60) and Bluffton (59).
Quinn is one of only two Dorchester Two athletes to claim an individual region championship but several area athletes placed in the Top 4 to also qualify for the Class AAAA state qualifying meet to be held May 4 at Spring Valley High School.
Quinn won the 100-meter dash with a 12.06 time, 200 with a 25.30 time, 100 hurdles with a 14.23 time and the long jump with a 17-09.00 mark.
Other Fort Dorchester athletes advancing to the state-qualifying meet include Breanna Lands (fourth in the 800), Autumn Stone (fourth in the 1600) and Kristin Lodge (fourth in the Shot Put and second in the Discus).
Summerville’s Rene Bourgeous won the 3200 with a 12:24.77 time and placed third in the 1600 with a 5:43.07 time.
Other Summerville athletes advancing to the state qualifier include Sara Dixson (third in the Shot Put and second in the Discus), Sommer Mackenzie (second in the 800), Alexandria Searles (fourth in the 400), Abby Bozarth (second in the 3200), Reeves Goettee (fourth in the High Jump), Ryleigh Campbell (third in the Pole Vault) and Tanara Brown (second in the Long Jump).
“Our girls team is young so most of them who are moving on to the qualifier will be back next year and I’m excited about that,” Summerville coach Joe Call said. “For many of them the state qualifier will be their first time participating on such a big stage so it will be a good experience for them.”
Sophie Belhassen qualified in multiple events for Ashley Ridge, placing second in the 1600 and third in the 3200.
Other Ashley Ridge athletes advancing to the state qualifier include Kawanda Hymes (fourth in the 100), Imagine Patterson (third in the 400) and Brenna Swartz (second in the High Jump).
In the relay events: Ashley Ridge won the 4x800 while Summerville placed second; Ashley Ridge placed second in the 4x100 while Summerville placed third; and Ashley Ridge placed third in the 4x400 while Summerville placed fourth.
Members of that 4x800 region championship team are Belhassen, Savannah Sutton, Megan Winningham, Kelly Burchette and Megan Illsley.

Roger Lee/Journal Scene -- Fort Dorchester’s Jasmine Quinn pulls ahead of the pack in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles finals race Thursday. --

Fort Dorchester’s Jasmine Quinn won four events but Beaufort turned in a commanding team performance to claim the 2013 Region 8-AAAA girls’ track and field championship.
