Summerville High School senior Brandon Wilkerson, on April 25, signed with the Erskine College basketball team.
"It is always exciting to see quality young people receive an opportunity to continue competing athletically at the next level while pursuing a college degree,” Summerville coach Greg Elliott said. “Brandon has always been a young man whose goals are taller than 10 feet high and he will be successful at whatever he attempts."
Wilkerson was a three-year starter for the Green Wave and led the team to three consecutive Region 8-AAAA Championships. He received all-region honors all three years and received All-State honors and played in the North-South All Star Game as a senior.
During his Green Wave career, Wilkerson averaged 18 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. He shot 50 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line. Other schools recruiting Wilkerson included Coker College, Queens College, Augusta State, and Virginia Intermont.
“I like the small campus at Erskine,” Wilkerson said during a signing celebration at the high school. “There is no place to hide so everyone there will know me and know what I’m about. I just like the overall feel of it and that it has a Christian-based background. I think that will help me improve my game as well as who I am as a person.”
Erskine College is a Division II institution and a member of Conference Carolinas. The Flying Fleet men’s basketball team finished 18-10 overall, and 11-9 in league play last season.
“I think they want to use me as like an inside/outside guy,” Wilkerson said. “They like to spread the floor and are a good three-point shooting team so I think it will be a good fit for me.”
He plans to major in athletic training.
