The Pinewood boys’ soccer team clinched a region championship last week when it beat Hilton Head Prep 4-0.
Freshman Dehlon Brooks scored two of the Panther goals and Max Jaskwhich and Jake Wall had the others.
Pinewood knew going into the game that if they could score at least two goals and have a shut out then they would be region champions. They did just that securing the region for the 10th consecutive year.
“I am happy that we won the region but we still have a long way to go,” Pinewood coach Enrique Rodriquez said. “The win against Hilton Head Prep was a team effort and I like how we are working for each other.”
A few days later the Pinewood boys finished the regular season by pounding Wilson Hall 6-0. It was appropriate that on senior night it would be two seniors that would score all the goals. Jake Wall scored four and Jarrett Londergan scored two. It was a full team contribution and the team played some nice soccer.
Pinewood entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed and played the quarterfinal at home on Monday against Heathwood Hall. The score was unavailable at press time.
The Pinewood Varsity Softball team defeated Northwood Academy 4-1 last week to claim Pinewood’s first softball region championship.
Sophomore Rebekah Detoma led the team going 2 for 3 at the plate and driving in two RBIs to seal the victory over The Chargers.
"The team’s main goal for the year was to bring home a region championship and now that they have that under their belt it is on to their next, a state title," Panther coach Chris Cusack said.
The softball team heads to the state finals this weekend.
