A Moncks Corner man was arrested last week by South Carolina Department of Revenue officials as a result of an alleged tax refund scam investigation.
According to an SCDR release, Quinton Washington, 36, was arrested and charged with two counts of assisting in the preparation of a fraudulent tax return and two counts of forgery.
Washington allegedly submitted income tax returns for 2008 and 2009 using fraudulent W-2 information, and allegedly claimed tax refunds totaling $5,702 and $5,330, respectively, to which he was not entitled.
If convicted of the four charges, Washington could face up to 30 years in prison and/or up to $1,000 in fines.
