Wooten resigns DREAM position

  • Thursday, May 9, 2013

As Summerville DREAM looks toward the future with a full slate of projects, it announced the resignation on May 8 of Executive Director, Carolyn Wooten.  Wooten said in her letter of resignation, her intention is to pursue her “interest in community and economic development and preservation of designated historic districts.” Wooten was hired in October 2012 to head the popular downtown organization.
As DREAM begins a search for a new Director, Jan Hursey will serve as Interim Executive Director. Hursey joined the DREAM staff in 2010, and has served as Assistant to the Executive Director and most recently as Events Coordinator.  DREAM (Downtown Restoration, Enhancement and Management) was established in 1992 as a non-profit, in order to respond to the problems of a declining downtown with a 40% vacancy rate.  DREAM continues this mission today with programs and events designed to preserve the historic identity, ensure the economic vitality, and promote a sense of community in the heart of Downtown Summerville.
