After an extensive investigation involving the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, the 1st Circuit Solicitors Office, Dorchester County Animal Control and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office, it has been determined that no charges will be filed with regard to the death of Carlton Freeman, who, confined to a wheelchair, was attacked by four dogs May 8 and later died of his injuries.
According to a statement released by Lt. Tony Phinney of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, information obtained shows that the animals in question were feral dogs and did not belong to any one person. “It was the victim’s request and is now his family’s wish that no charges be made in this case,” Phinney’s statement read.
