Free farmers’ market vouchers for seniors

Dorchester Seniors, Inc., in partnership with SCDSS and SCDA is issuing free vouchers to income-eligible individuals age 60 and older for the purchase of fresh SC homegrown produce at designated local farmers' markets.  Each eligible person will receive $25 worth of vouchers to be used between the date of issue and October 15, 2013.  Vouchers are limited and will be issued on a first come first served basis until the supply is exhausted.
Applications may be submitted in person. Proof of identity and residency in Dorchester County is required to determine voucher eligibility.  Applicants must meet total household income guidelines to receive vouchers.  Applicants are required to report the total income of each person in their household if applying in person. 
Homebound seniors may appoint a proxy to apply for their vouchers.  Individuals with either Power of Attorney or written, signed authorization to apply for homebound seniors must present:
A written statement or  Power of Attorney granting permission to apply on the senior’s behalf;Picture ID for themselves AND all members in  homebound senior’s household;Proof of income (copy of check, SSA statement or bank statement) for each member of the homebound senior’s household.Documentation must be presented at the time of application. 
The goal of the Seniors Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is to supplement the diets of low-income seniors with fresh, nutritious produce and to support South Carolina’s small farmers throughout the growing season. 
The distribution is at the Faith Sellers Senior Center on Monday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 12, 8:30 to 11 a.m., 312 No. Laurel St., Summerville. When vouchers run out, distribution site will be closed.
