  • Thursday, May 30, 2013

Al and David Owens and Kara Stem, all of Summerville, graduated from the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH), May 24.
Graduation events took place on the school campus, as well as the Peace Center in Greenville, SC.
Stem’s focus was music and the viola, and the Owens’ focus was in the visual arts.
Stem will attend Clemson University and the Owens will attend the Cleveland Institute of Art.
“Our students work diligently and passionately in their art areas, as well as in their academic endeavors,” says Dr. Bruce Halverson, president of SCGSAH. “Now as graduates, we celebrate their successes and continue to support them in their future studies.”
Among this graduating class, there was a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, two National Merit Finalists and nearly half of the senior class was named to the National Honor Society.
The class of 109 graduates garnered $26,300,000 in scholarship offers from institutions across the country.
