Helen Berry Clayton, 92, of 845 Wire Road, widow of William Oliver Clayton, Sr., entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at her daughter and son-in-law’s residence in Ridgeville.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church with the Reverend Ronald Brewer, Chaplin Marshall Stanley and Robert Hoover officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Pallbearers will be her great grandsons.  Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryant Funeral Home, St. George.
Helen (Big Mama) was born on November 12, 1920, in Reevesville, a daughter of the late Willie Clyde Berry, Sr. and Carrie Lee Hutto Berry.  She was a former school teacher in Ridgeville, a seamstress at Carolina Girlswear and a member of Zion United Methodist Church.  She was predeceased by her siblings, Willie Clyde Berry, Jr., Mary Elizabeth “Sis” Doyle, Charles Berry and Martha Ann Marchant.
Surviving is a son, William Oliver “Bubba” Clayton, Jr., Dorchester; a daughter, Anna Margaret (Carlisle) Carter, Ridgeville; grandchildren, Teresa Laverne (Banks) Smith, Charleston, Patricia Ann Murray, Dorchester, Carlisle S.(Bub) Carter, Jr., Ridgeville, Donna Faye (Fred) Spayth, Summerville, William Michael Carter, John Wayland “Johnny” Carter, Bryan Clayton Carter, all of Ridgeville, Toni Gwen (Huey) Shieder, and Joni Lynn (Jim) Horne, both of St. George; great-grandchildren, Darrel “DJ” Spayth, III, Anna Marie (Jay) Harlan, Nicole Carter-Dececco, Will Riley Carter-Dececco, Joshua Banks Smith, Carlisle Sidney Smith, Clayton Kyle Smith, Crystal (Matt) LaChance, LeAnn Rodenberger, Amy Rodenberger, Blaise Murray, Chelsea Ann Murray, Megan DeAnn Carter, Ashley Summers Carter, William Justin Carter, Carla Sue Carter, Kimberly Horne (Gene) Dukes, James Samuel Horne, IV, Katie Horne and Joey Shieder; great-great grandchildren, Landon Spayth, Dexter Spayth, Dakota LaChance, Cody LaChance, Dallas LaChance, Caroline LaChance and Lilly Sewell; and two special people in her life, Pam Griffith and Barbara Jones: brother-in-law, Tom L. Doyle, St. Matthews, sisters-in-law, Louise M. Berry and Doris M. Berry, both of Reevesville and a number of nieces and nephews .
