Summerville Mayor’s Committee recipients awarded statewide recognition
The S.C. Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities recently named the Rewined, LLC as its Small Employer of the Year and OE Enterprises INC. of North Charleston as its Medium Employer of the Year. Both businesses were nominated by the Summerville Mayor’s Committee after winning local awards on May 1.
Rewined strives to turn discarded items into beautifully designed and functional products. Candles are handcrafted from repurposed wine bottles. The award recognizes a business that employs less than 25 people and is exemplary in its hiring practices and provides leadership in utilizing the abilities that people with disabilities have to offer.
Rewined recognizes the value and talent of workers with disabilities. The company has partnered with the SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department’s On-the-Job Training program. During the training, the trainee learns the skills of the job with the guidance of an experience company mentor.
Since August of 2012, Rewined has hired 13 individuals with disabilities. These individuals have earned not only permanent employment with benefits, but also a great sense of personal achievement. Three of the new employees have already been promoted to supervisory positions.
Adam Fetsch, Founder of Rewined, LLC was also happy to participate in Disability Mentoring Day by welcoming students to tour their facility for exposure to a variety of career and entrepreneur options.
OE Enterprises Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation, which manages the janitorial services at the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP) in North Charleston. The award recognizes a business that employs 26 to 250 people and is exemplary in its hiring practices and provides leadership in utilizing the abilities that people with disabilities have to offer.
OE Enterprises INC. has been a valued partner of the Disabilities Board of Charleston County and S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation since 2009. OE Enterprises has been a leader in the community providing employment opportunities for 11 individuals with disabilities at CMOP. Management staff has consistently provided accommodations to ensure successful employment and independence of individuals with disabilities.
CMOP provides a positive influence within and outside the workplace. Job openings are posted on a regular basis with the Disabilities Board of Charleston County.
