Cruise Control Driving School Inc. of Summerville has awarded three $500 academic scholarships to 2013 seniors Alexis Cone and Sara Grant of Summerville High School and Sarah Moderhack of Pinewood Preparatory School. The scholarships were based on a compilation of applicants’ academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service and their driving record.
Applicants also had to submit tan essay on what they thought was the most important invention of mankind.
Alexis Cone is the daughter of Mark and Sherry Cone of Summerville. Among numerous school activities, Alexis was a member of the SHS National Honor Society and Student Council and played on the varsity tennis team for four years. She finished in the top 3 percent of her class academically. Alexis will attend Clemson University and plans to study food sciences.
Sara Grant is the daughter of Jim and May Grant of Summerville. Sara was a member of the SHS National Honor Society, Beta Club and was chosen for Girls State among other numerous activities. She also graduated in the top 3 percent of her graduating class. Sara will attend Clemson University and major in pre-medical science biology.
Sarah Moderhack is the daughter of Mark and Jane Moderhack of Summerville. Sarah was a member of the Pinewood Prep Student Government and a children’s hospital volunteer for MUSC. Sarah will attend Sewanee: The University of the South, located in Tennessee. She plans to major in biology.
This is the tenth consecutive year that Cruise Control Driving School has awarded academic scholarships to local area students. They began business in 2000.
