“A ‘New Age” solution to the ‘dog eat dog’ competition in the theatre world!!”
says Mary Gould, Producer at SOBTC
Introducing the Premiere Season of Next Stage, a truly unique and innovative theatre experience produced by Flowertown and our New York trained neighbors at South of Broadway Theatre Company. Our Next Stage joint production raises the bar by blending both companies' best attributes, setting a new precedent in LowCountry theatrical collaboration.
South of Broadway has been producing professional theatre in the Park Circle area of North Charleston for close to five years, using New York trained actors and local professionals. Their 99 seat black box theater is the perfect space for powerful, thought-provoking, actor driven plays.
Flowertown Players has been the Summerville theater scene for 37 Seasons, specializing in theatre for the community by the community. Their 200 seat James F. Dean theater doesn't have a bad seat in the house, and has become known for it's superb designs and community involvement.
Co-productions by theatre companies are not especially common.  One of the obvious benefits is for the Flowertown theatre community members to have the chance to work with trained professionals and be able to advance their own skills through the experience. For the audience, it is an even rarer opportunity to get to see one show, with one cast, performed at two completely different venues. Seeing a show performed in a minimalist style, in-the-round (the audience sits on all sides of the actors), will provide a powerful and immersive opportunity, that only a place like South of Broadway can provide. Then seeing it on a larger scale with a full production values at Flowertown, will be impressive.
